The the Province of Durham has launched an appeal to raise money for the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The Festival will conclude in 2021.
The MCF provides financial support for the children and grandchildren of Freemasons who are living in circumstances of hardship and distress due to the death, disability or redundancy of a parent, or the breakdown of the family. The charity also provides support for children from Masonic families who have severe disabilities, as well as those with an exceptional talent in music, sport and the performing arts. While the work of the MCF is predominantly focussed on Masonic families, the charity’s Stepping Stones scheme provides grants to non-Masonic charities and programmes that also aim to break the link between poverty and a lack of access to education.
The Trust currently supports 50 cases in Durham and the help given to these children has amounted to almost £700,000 over the last five years.
The success of the Durham Festival will be vital to the funds available for the Trust in 2021 and therefore the Festival should be the Province’s priority over the next five years.
